AIR CONDITIONING FUN FACTS:

WHAT IS IT?

An air conditioner (often referred to as A/C or Central Air) is an appliance, system, or machine designed to stabilize the air temperature and humidity within an area, typically using a refrigeration cycle for comfortable cooling in homes, buildings and motor vehicles.

Air conditioning is the cooling and dehumidification of indoor air for thermal comfort. In a broader sense, the term can refer to any form of cooling, heating, ventilation, or disinfection that modifies the condition of air.

HOW WAS IT BORN?

The concept of air conditioning is known to have been applied in Ancient Rome, where aqueduct water was circulated through the walls of certain houses to cool them. Similar techniques in medieval Persia involved the use of cisterns and wind towers to cool buildings during the hot season.

Modern air conditioning emerged from advances in chemistry during the 19th century, and the first large-scale electrical air conditioning unit was invented and used in 1902 by Willis Haviland Carrier.

Choosing the Right Company to Install Your A/C is Very Important to Your Comfort

The most important factor in getting an efficient and comfortable Central air system is the company doing the installation. At the risk of being negative about our own industry, heating and air conditioning contractors, as a whole, do a very poor job of installing heating and cooling systems!

A recent report from the Comfort Institute observed that there is simply a lot more to efficient operation of your furnace than the manufacturers’ ratings. Efficiency numbers are measured in a controlled, ideal laboratory setting. A lot can and does go wrong when a contractor takes the equipment out into the real world and installs it in your home. Most homeowners are simply not getting the efficiency they are paying for.

In a recent utility study, 9 out of every 10 new systems had energy wasting mistakes due to errors or oversights by the installing contractor. The EPA states:

“Newly installed heating and cooling systems that are under or over-sized, improperly charged, or connected to a poorly designed and installed duct system will not deliver the rated efficiency.”

Does Replacing Your A/C Unit Fix All Of Your Cooling problems?

Your A/C unit is part of a complete comfort system made up of multiple components. In many instances a new A/C unit will remove the defects and add a higher level of comfort and reliability. To ensure that your system components work properly together, we go the extra mile and find easy to fix defects.
